Synthesis,
not analysis,
is the highest poetic utterance
"It
was thus, with delight, I chanced upon a performance of TAP's
What
TAP has called synergy in their plays is what I had imagined to be whole
phrasing, and I recognised our affinity.
There is a synergy in human effort to transcend ordinary life, its categories,
divisions, precisions, conflicts, its 'rationalities' and to grasp, however
briefly, the poetic and ecstatic Oneness, or totality, which is the privilege
of saints and mystics, scientists and poets like Kalidasa who was one
with Nature; and the TAP members I have known are all like that.
Theirs
is the Total Theatre, in embryo, dreamed of by Artaud in his Second Manifesto
'which will address itself only to total man
renouncing psychological
man, with his well-dissected character and feelings, and social man, submissive
to laws and misshapen by religions and precepts.'
TAP
is still an uncommercial group utterly unifying the actor's life with
his art, in a spiritual discipline that jettisons the individual ego for
a collective synergy and the materialisation of the metaphysical poem
with its resonance in Nature, Man and the Unknown, as envisioned by Antonin
Artaud."
